What is Scrabble?

If you love word games and enjoy brainstorming and using your smarts to win in a game, then you’ve definitely played scrabble at least once or twice before. Scrabble is a popular word game that dates back to the 1930s. It was created in an attempt to uplift people during the great depression in America which was a time when the world was facing economic instability and people needed a little cheering up.

A former New York architect, Alfred Mosher Butts, is the genius who invented scrabble while trying to introduce scoring to word games; something that was still very uncommon at the time. He wanted to make word games fun and enjoyable for all. To make it the wonderful game it is today, scrabble underwent minor name and quality adjustments over the years. It was first called Lexiko, which was later changed to Criss Cross Words then to its present name.

Currently, the main producers of scrabble and scrabble deluxe are the Parker Brothers division of the multinational toy and board game company, Hasbro games.
